ZikZak

Terms of use

Last updated: 30 October 2026.

These terms apply when you use ZikZak at zikzk.com. ZikZak is a free, non-commercial project run by Fredrik Berggreen, Holte, Denmark (“we”). Contact: hello@zikzk.com. By using ZikZak, or by creating an account, you agree to these terms. How we handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.

Who can use ZikZak

You must be at least 13 years old. If you’re younger, please ask a parent or guardian to help you. One account per person, and keep your password and recovery code to yourself.

Your photos and content

Your photos, notes and atlas stay yours. If you save your atlas to the cloud, make it public or use Plan together, you give us a limited, non-exclusive, free licence to store, copy, resize and show that content, only to run ZikZak for you and to show it to the people you share it with. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in short-lived backups.

You’re responsible for what you upload and share. Only share content you have the right to share, and think about the people in your photos before you make your atlas public.

Public atlases and Plan together

Your atlas is private until you make it public. A public atlas is a view-only copy that anyone with the link can see. It leaves out your home, file names and account details, and rounds locations to about 1 km, but notes, photos and trip names are visible. You can make it private again at any time, and the public copy is deleted at once.

A Plan together link lets anyone who opens it and signs in join your plan. Members see each other’s display names and the plan’s places. You can remove people or stop sharing at any time.

Discover

Discover lets signed-in ZikZak users search a city or a country and see places that other users chose to show there. Nothing is in Discover unless you switch it on – for a trip, a single photo or a Someday place – and your atlas being public does not put it in Discover.

What others see is the place (rounded to about 2 km), the month, the photos you chose, the one line you wrote for that place, and your first name with your initial. They never see your email, your home, your notes, file names or the exact position of a photo. Signed-in users can open your shared places as a guest, read only, and can't copy them into their own atlas.

You can take anything out of Discover at any time – one photo, a trip, or everything with "Stop sharing in Discover" in Settings. It is gone from Discover at once.

Only show photos you have the right to share, and think about the people in them. The rules under "Acceptable use" apply to Discover too, and anything in Discover can be reported the same way as a shared atlas: "Report" on the place card or in the ⋯ menu of a shared atlas.

Acceptable use

Don’t use ZikZak to:

Reporting a shared atlas or a Discover place

If you find a public atlas, a place in Discover or other content on ZikZak that you think is illegal or breaks these terms, email hello@zikzk.com with the link (or the place and the name shown) and why. Use “Report” on the place card in Discover or in the shared atlas’s ⋯ menu, or write “Report” in the subject. We’ll look at every report promptly and tell you what we did. If we remove content or limit an account, we’ll tell the person affected and why, and they can reply to ask us to look again. This is our notice-and-action process under the EU Digital Services Act. hello@zikzk.com is also our point of contact for authorities and users, in English or Danish.

Removing content and closing accounts

We may remove content or suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the law, or that puts others at risk. Where we can, we’ll warn you first. You can delete your account at any time in Settings, which removes your cloud data at once.

The service

ZikZak is free and provided “as is”. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free, and features may change or end. If we close ZikZak, we’ll give account holders at least 30 days’ notice by email so you can download your atlas. The cloud copy is not a backup service: keep your original photos.

Links such as Find stays and Find flights open other websites (for example Booking.com and Google Flights). Their own terms apply, and we don’t earn anything from them.

Liability

We’re not liable for indirect loss, or for loss of data or content, to the extent the law allows. This doesn’t limit liability for intent or gross negligence, or any rights you have as a consumer that can’t be waived.

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top and, for account holders, give notice by email before the change takes effect. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account.

Law and disputes

Danish law applies. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection of that country’s mandatory consumer law. Disputes go to the Danish courts, but as a consumer you may also bring a case in the courts where you live. Please write to us first: most things can be solved by email.
